CLIENT: NPOWER
Project: Power Days
Background
Energy company npower wanted to create and provide an educational resource for school pupils to interact with and enjoy.
They needed a company with the creative expertise to devise a scheme which met their brief but also had the ability to deliver the project nationwide. They chose Learn by Design.
Action
Learn by Design devised a branded and themed product called a Power Day, targeted at Key Stage 2 pupils (mainly primary school years 5 and 6).
The day was free for the schools involved and incorporated interactive workshops tailored to a number of themes, with a combination of hands-on activities, video presentations and team challenges:
- Team power - a group challenge using the key skills of team work, communication and problem solving
- Natural power - a presentation on renewable forms of energy together with an interactive quiz.
- Body power - a session combining health and fitness, involving a range of interactive hands-on experiences utilising equipment such as the Batak board, photo-electric equipment for the sprint challenge and rowing ergometers.
- Mind power - a presentation using the 'power of the mind', discussing mental preparation for target setting as well as achieving success.
Result
Learn by Design produced an ongoing delivery programme for the Power Days which has seen over 40 schools benefiting from the concept throughout 2004.
The concept has now been extended into Cricket Power Days, to support npower's sponsorship of Test Match cricket.
