New Renewable Energy Workshops Launched

Our brand new Renewable Energy Workshop, designed in conjunction with the Royal Academy of Engineering as part of one of their Ingenious Grant Awards, provides an interactive experience where students investigate the applications of wind and solar energy systems.

Students build a variety of solar cars and experiment to discover whether series or parallel circuits produce the greatest efficiency and investigate the effects of gravity on the cars performance.  Photo-electric timing is then used for the final ‘race-off’ between the various teams.

Using a variety of equipment, students are challenged to build wind turbines and investigate the optimum configuration of variables such as blade numbers and blade angles, to design and build the most efficient turbine.  The students’ designs are then tested using our ‘test fan rig’ and large ammeter.

Other interactive STEM workshops we provide use a variety of our engaging equipment including BATAK (Light Reaction) Boards, Watt Bikes, Photo-electric Timing Equipment, Radar Speed Cage and Concept2 Ergometers, and include:

- Physical Science for Key Stage 3
- Biology in Sport for Key Stage 4
- Chemistry in Sport for Key Stage 4 and Sixth Form
- Numeracy in Sport for Key Stage 3 & 4

Our STEM shows also include:

- Sci Sport – The Science behind Sport for Key Stage 3 & 4
- Physics in Sport  for Key Stage 3 & 4
- Sport, Ethics and Engineering of the Olympic Games for Key Stage 3 & 4
