By Design Group are 'Aspiring Minds' with the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust

The DKH Legacy Trust has been chosen by The Transformation Trust to benefit from funding as one of eight projects that will be providing extra-curricular activities and support for thousands of pupils and teachers across England from September 2010.

The new projects to benefit were launched on Tuesday, at the 02 as part of The Transformation Trust's first birthday celebrations.

As one of the successful projects from over £8.5m worth of bids submitted by more than 100 organisations the DKH Legacy Trust's Aspiring Minds project is designed to help young people develop new skills, grow in confidence, learn to work as a team, and discover hidden talents.

The eight projects receiving funding for the academic year 2010/11 are:

1. Aspiring Minds (Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust)
2. Blastbeat
3. F1 in Schools
4. Furthering Talent (Awards for Young Musicians)
5. Magic Breakfast
6. Photofusion
7. Shakespeare Schools Festival
8. Teaching Leaders

The DKH Legacy Trust's Aspiring Minds project will provide support for young people, helping them to develop the 'can do' attitude, motivation and personal skills required for success in the modern world. Delivered by world class sports stars and a skilled team of trainers from our delivery partner, 'By Design Group', Aspiring Minds will give young people the chance to learn from winners in sport, and how they can use this learning to become winners in life.

Sir David Bell, Chairman of the Transformation Trust, said: "I am delighted that from September we will be offering young people and teachers an even wider range of activities funded by The Transformation Trust. Our ambition is for every young person to have access to activities which capture their imagination and enthusiasm, help them to unlock hidden talents and open doors to new careers and opportunities."

"From rock and rap music to Shakespeare, from business skills to engineering and photography, we want young people to be able to make the most of this kind of extra-curricular activity, no matter what their background or where they come from. In addition, we are also supporting a number of projects which provide disadvantaged young people and their families with access to practical, emotional and financial assistance to get them back on track."

Julie Whelan, CEO of the DKH Legacy Trust said:

"We are delighted to have been chosen by the Transformation Trust to benefit from their funding for projects which really change young people's lives.  With our delivery partner, By Design Group, we look forward to making a huge difference through Aspiring Minds."
