Cambridge Master giving FREE talk at Fenscape!
On Wednesday 16th December at 1.00pm Fenscape will be host to the renound Fenland historian, Brian Jones.
Brian, a Master of Studies of University of Cambridge, will be delivering a talk on Fenland plants including the use of woad, the plant made famous by the great warrior Boudicca! The lecture will also cover the history of the cultivated landscape and the many varieties of plants that were grown, their uses commercially and the way they were used by people of the Fens.

Brian's talks are well liked with both local people as those from further afield, especially as he shares an abundance of anecdotes to keep the public entertained, we’ve even had someone from Leicestershire call to say they are coming to the talk"
All of the events are free to access however spaces will be limited and will be given on a first come, first seated basis rather than booking in advance. In addition Fens Forward wants to encourage young parents to attend the events and so the is a free Nursery Voucher Scheme available, working with a local Registered Nursery called Lilliputs, parents that use the voucher scheme will be able to book a place in advance so that they can arrange their childcare and register at the nursery.
The event is part of an six month long Horti'Cultural' Festival, which has been funded by the department of Business Innovation and Skills through their Learning Revolution -Transformation Fund, has received £10k which will enable Fens Forward at Fenscape – The Fens Discovery Centre and Springfields Horticultural Society, to put on eighteen themed events including demonstrations, talks and hands on activities.
