FREE Horti'cultural' Festival kicks off with Botanical Drawing: Friday 23rd October 2009
A six month festival exploring the cultural side of Horticulture is kicking off this Friday at Springfields, Spalding with a workshop on Botanical Drawing with local artist Lindis Maria from Cherry Holt Studios.
Lindis says, "This is a great opportunity for people to learn about Botanical Drawing I feel lucky to have been approached to start the Festival. The programme of events looks great and I’m sure that those that attend will really enjoy themselves and learn a great deal".
The Festival, which has been funded by the department of Business Innovation and Skills through their Learning Revolution -Transformation Fund, has received £10k which will enable Fens Forward at Fenscape – The Fens Discovery Centre, to put on eighteen themed events including demonstrations, talks and hands on activities. Fens Forward and Springfields Horticultural Society, a partner in the project are really looking forward to the Festival starting and Nicola Carr, Fens Forward Manager says,
"The Festival is providing us with a great opportunity to involve adults in an exciting and innovative programme of events, we want to stimulate and foster new interests in Horticulture and the Festival is a great platform to do this from. We can’t wait for the Festival to get under way and are really looking forward to a successful six months of events and activities".
All of the events are free to access however spaces will be limited and will be given on a first come, first seated basis rather than booking in advance. In addition Fens Forward wants to encourage young parents to attend the events and so there is a free Nursery Voucher Scheme available, working with a local Registered Nursery called Lilliputs, parents that use the voucher scheme will be able to book a place in advance so that they can arrange their childcare and register at the nursery.
The first event will be held in the Bellamy Room at Fenscape on Friday 23rd October and starts at 1pm. The Second event, 'Designing with Nature' by successful Garden Designer, Amanda Stonehouse will be taking place in a marquee in the Festival Gardens at 1pm on the 29th October.
