Launch of Summer Lectures at Fenscape with the Cottage Garden Society
Fens Forward at Fenscape - Fens Discovery Centre is launching its new Summer Lecture Series, starting with the ever so popular Andrew Sankey from the Cottage Garden Society.
Andrew, a member of the Society for many years and an expert in his field, will be exploring the many aspects of the traditional cottage garden.
The History of the Cottage Garden is a factual and amusing talk on what was grown in a typical English Garden. It will cover all aspects of how the garden served a full and varied purpose in the villagers life, how all the plants had their benefits not just to feed the family but to heal wounds and guard the household from evil spirits.
Andrew will be bringing along examples of plants and will share his advice on what can be best used today to create an attractive garden with species that care for themselves and are easily maintained.
What's more, Andrew has been working with Springfields Horticultural Society to develop plans for a new Cottage Garden on the site which will be a welcome addition and fantastic place to explore and learn about traditional Fenland plants.
This first event is taking place on the 29 June at 2pm in the Festival Gardens.
