Fenscape gets poetical with the works of John Clare
The John Clare Garden - Poets and the Seeds of Ideas
On Thursday 21st January at 7.00pm Fenscape will be holding an evening of poetry based on the renowned local Fenland Poet, John Clare.
Richard Donoyou will be delivering a talk on the life and times of the Northamptonshire Poet John Clare and his legacy today. John Clare (1793 – 1864) was born and grew up in Helpston, and let a fascinating life in the rural Fens in the early 19th Century, the talk will explore his decline into depression and time in an asylum to his family life and six children and the hardships associated with life in the Fens. He was inspired by the environment and nature to write poetry and is seen today as the most important poets of the natural world to come from Britain.
Clare Cottage Project has recently renovated his family home and recreated a traditional Cottage Garden at his family home in Helpston which is now open to the public and Fenscape is helping to raise the profile of the Poet with this evening of poetry.
The evening event is free to attend and so anyone who has an interest in poetry and the heritage of the Fens can turn up for a free evening of entertainment.
