Project: Climate Cops Academy Days

Summary

On behalf of npower, one of the UK's leading integrated energy companies, By Design have designed, developed and now deliver interactive Key Stage 2 workshops on the important subjects of climate change and energy efficiency.

Objective

npower required a solution to provide interactive workshops to Primary Schools, across the UK, as part of their Brighter Futures programme, a £20million, five year scheme designed to make UK schools more sustainable.

The solution had to meet the school subject learning objectives for Key Stage 2 pupils together with being interactive, engaging and highly exciting! It also had to be practically delivered in the school environment to two classes of pupils on each day.

Solution

By Design created, developed and deliver Climate Cop Academy Days to Primary Schools across the UK.

The Climate Cop Academy is an interactive, highly engaging two hour workshop based around the important issue of climate change, with pupils actively learning about energy efficiency and renewable energy through a combination of hands on activities, video presentations and team challenges, to also develop their personal skills. Although targeted at pupils aged 9 - 10 years of age (Year 5), the workshop has been designed to accommodate pupils from Year 3 to Year 6 and is delivered free to the participating schools.

The programme also comes complete with pre and post visit learning resources which provides the teachers with additional activities to assist with the pupils' learning

Results

npower have been delighted with the impact of the Climate Cops Academy Days with fantastic feedback received from the pupils, teachers and schools involved in the programme.

With the success of the 2008 events, npower increased the number of Primary Schools available to receive the programme in 2009 to 300, with 2010 and 2011 seeing similar success. By Design has now been commissioned to keep the programme running throughout 2012 as well.
